Remodeling Ideas Made for the Millennial

Since we spend so much of our lives in the office, if a candidate doesn’t see themselves enjoying your office environment, they will likely go elsewhere. At Titus Contracting, we are the trusted commercial contractor for the Plymouth area and are here to provide you with a few design ideas to attract the generation of workers; millennials.

Millennials will soon outnumber Baby Boomers in the workforce. So, if you haven’t already, it is time to build a workplace that’s more appealing to this younger generation. By accommodating their needs, you can attract the candidates you want, ensuring you get top talent for your business. Here are a few design trends millennials look for in a workplace:

Communal
Millennials are ambitious and tech-savvy. They have a different working style than previous generations, so it’s important to hire a commercial contractor who can put together a design that understands this. For instance, their ease with mobile technology enables many of them to work anytime, anywhere and they can be more productive sitting in a communal space than sitting at a desk. Your blueprints should include an open floor plan with communal spaces to accommodate the employees that may prefer to work somewhere other than their desk.

Work-Life Balance
Your commercial contractor should set aside a small space in your renovation plans for a quiet, relaxing area or a place to unwind. A quiet space to de-stress, game room, cafe or gym can help encourage employees to relax and can also encourage creativity. Giving your employees a place to de-stress could also result in fewer sick days, and increase morale.

Flexibility
With so many talented people entering the workforce it is important to accommodate more people in less space Commercial contractors such as ours should design a strategy that accommodates techniques such as desk sharing.

Beige-Free Zone
Your commercial contractor should also incorporate color into their design. Bright and bold colors on the walls can bring energy to the office and to your employees. If you don’t want to paint an entire room a bright color, consider accent walls. Have just one wall painted blue and the other walls painted a more neutral shade. This is a huge trend in offices right now and can be easily incorporated into your office remodeling plans.

How to Design a More Productive and Happier Office

Does your current office space provide an environment for optimizing your employees’ productivity? If not, what are some ways to improve it? Happy employees are the foundation for productivity. From lighting to pops of color, there are many ways to create a positive workplace. When you start seeing your workplace less as a building and more as an environment, you can begin considering a commercial design build for your Minneapolis business that will inspire openness and productivity.

As a company that specializes in office remodeling, we’ve helped countless business owners reach the full potential of their commercial space. We have a few great suggestions on how to optimize your office for getting the job done.

Open Floor Plans

It’s simple. When the walls come down, productivity goes up. An open floor plan can make employees more accountable for their actions. Social media can be a terrible distraction but with the walls down, there will be less looking-over-the-shoulders and more work getting done. An open floor plan also helps increase morale, as well as in-person interactions.

Natural Light

There have been several studies about the affects of natural light on workers. From darker spaces causing Vitamin D deficiencies to unnatural light messing with workers’ sleep patterns or causing headaches; there are many reasons to let the light in on your next commercial design build.

Employees need access to sunlight. You can maximize the natural light that enters your office with strategically placed windows. Interior walls made of glass can help increase their access to natural light. You can also strategically place solid walls so they won’t block employees’ access to daylight. In addition, there are many options in smart lighting systems to help fend off the lack-of-light blues. When you contact us for your commercial design build, we can discuss the many lighting options and help increase your access to natural light.

Pops of Color

Add an element of surprise with unexpected flourishes of color. Decorate your space with colorful accent walls, murals or colorful furniture to brighten your employees’ day. Drab colored walls can limit your employees’ creativity and thus decrease productivity.

At Titus Contracting, we love to incorporate these subtle elements of design in a commercial design build, knowing what a new coat of paint or accent wall can do to the dynamics of a space.

These are just a few of the many ways an office remodel can help increase productivity. Would you like to learn more about a commercial design build for your Minneapolis business? Call Titus Contracting at 952-746-7817 or contact us for a Consultation.

Rooftop Remodel for Multi-Family Building

Titus Contracting Inc. completed another exciting project that we’d like to share. We recently worked with KMS Management on a large multi-family remodeling project in Minneapolis.

The Calhoun is a large apartment complex, which is located in the high-demand Uptown area. We worked alongside the property management firm and their architects to complete the design of the building.

Then our team of commercial remodelers started by completely remodeling the apartment complex's rooftop exterior deck; including the pool, barbeque and social seating area. We brought this space up-to-date using maintenance-free products, and we completed the grill area using stainless steel and granite. We also added a bar area and gas fire pit as finishing touches to this excellent rooftop entertainment space.

Next, we moved to the front façade of the building. There are many new buildings in this area, creating a need for the owner to give the apartment community a more updated look. Using wood and steel, along with LED lighting and specialty signage, we were sure to make this commercial remodel meet the client's needs for a fresh new look. A new product, called DI-NOC, from 3M, was used to give the columns a chic new look. DI-NOC is a specialty film that can give existing finishes an updated look without completely replacing everything.

Continuing to modernize the look of the building, we renovated their signage both on the upper corner of the building and by adding a new marquee sign alongside the front steps. We also wrapped the front retaining wall in aluminum for added curb appeal. Other updates we did to the front entryway included: adding a new eyebrow to the upper porch (again using the DI-NOC) and adding a beautiful cedar plank ceiling on the underside.

Interior Commercial Build Out Benefits

There are a variety of reasons you should consider an interior commercial build out for your St Paul business. There are the obvious reasons: an interior commercial build out will make your business look better. But there are several other advantages to having this type of commercial renovation done.

First of all, an interior commercial build out is a great way to use the space you have more effectively. For example, if you have a showroom to show off the products you sell, you could expand the space and make your showroom even bigger. You could help with the room’s flow, and you can make it more comfortable for customers to move around in.

An interior commercial build out is also a great way to make more space for any new equipment your company might be purchasing in the near and distant future. Newer equipment could also increase your company’s productivity, which means more for your bottom line.

Also, an interior commercial build out is excellent for improving your employees’ morale. There is nothing quite like a fresh and new office space to help boost creativity and productivity. For example, having a new break room to get lunch or other refreshments could give your employees a much-needed break. And after a few minutes of clearing their head, they could go back to work fully refreshed and ready to tackle the next problem.

An interior commercial build out could also help your company’s image. You could have a nice and new office space or warehouse space to present to both current and potential customers or investors. After all, this is a great way to put your best foot forward and make a good impression on the folks that help to drive your business.

Getting Creative with Color

No matter where you look, color is all around us. And it can affect our mood positively or negatively, not to mention that of your employees and customers. When you are in the midst of a commercial build out project in Bloomington, you might be thinking about paint colors and how they can affect the mood of your employees and customers. Read on for some information about some popular color choices and how they can influence people’s moods.

Yellow
Most people associate yellow with positive and optimistic feelings. But yellow is one of those colors that most people either love or hate. So we recommend that, if you want yellow in your new commercial space, you confine it to the bathroom or kitchen and just stick with that color in one room.

Blue
Blue is a people-pleaser. It is relaxing but it also does not sacrifice productivity. The color blue is a popular choice for many when they have a commercial build out project going on. And blue comes in so many different and varying shades that you are sure to find the perfect one for your new commercial space.

Red
Red is a color that most businesses should avoid. Studies show that the color red can make people feel more aggressive and impulsive. It can also reduce a person’s ability for critical thinking. Try not to use this color in your commercial build out project, but if you do, confine it to one accent wall and that’s it.

Green
Green is a lot like blue in that it is a relaxing and soothing color, mostly because it brings the outdoor environment to mind (think: trees and grass). It can also encourage creative thinking, so use it for the offices of your innovative thinkers, like your marketing or graphic design department.

Orange
Studies have shown that people associate orange with a good value. So if your commercial build out includes retail space, you might want to consider this color as an option. It might not work for an entire room but it will work well for an accent wall or two. That way, your customers will start to associate your business with a good value!

5 Steps to Get Started on a Commercial Remodeling Project

When you’re thinking about getting started on a commercial remodeling project in Bloomington, there’s a lot to organize! If you’re not quite sure where to start, we’ve provided some tips on how to get started on a commercial remodeling project. We hope to hear from you soon!

1. Evaluate your space. If you just bought a new space, take some time to figure out what you’re working with. Get familiar with your business’ new home. If you’re planning to remodel a space you’ve had for awhile, evaluate what you like and what you don’t like. From there, you can start thinking about what this commercial remodeling project is going to entail.

2. What do you want to accomplish? You must ask yourself this question, as it will help provide direction for the whole project. Do you want to drive more foot traffic? Or is your goal to make it easier for your loyal shoppers to get the most out of their experience? Whatever your end-goals are, make sure they’re clearly defined.

3. Start planning! This could be as simple as starting a list of what needs done. Start by adding things to your plan that you know you definitely want to see. The rest of the plan can be built around those things that are most important to you. If you’re more creative, you could start to draw an initial sketch of the project.

4. Talk it out. Talk over some of your ideas and review some of your plans with a business partner, friends and family. See if they have a gut feeling about the project and if they have any feedback for you right off the bat. Sometimes, some of the most obvious things can get missed when you’ve looked at a project for too long.

5. Call Titus Contracting. Once you’re ready to get started, contact Titus Contracting Inc. We can help you with all your commercial remodeling needs. One of our designers will be able to sit down with you and review what you’re thinking about for the project. From there, we can get started on turning your dreams into a reality!
